Award Recipients are Top Environmental Performers and Leaders for Freight Supply Chain Efficiency

Maverick was honored with a SmartWay® Excellence Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as a true industry leader in freight supply chain environmental performance and energy efficiency. Maverick continued its efforts of updating its fleet through 2015, replacing 450 assets with Daimler’s fuel-efficient Cascadia tractor, equipped with Park Smart idle reduction technology. Collectively, the fleet’s fuel efficiency increased two-tenths of a mile per gallon year-over-year, with reduction in CO2 emissions of 20 grams per mile.

“Investments in technologies that support improved emission efficiencies continue to pay dividends,” said VP of Maintenance Mike Jeffress. “Specific technologies that work seamlessly together are often overlooked. Safety technology that interacts with the engine and transmissions of today and offer enhancements – we have coupled these improvements with proven technologies that impact fuel efficiency. This includes implementation of Michelin’s wide base tire technology, Pressure Systems International’s tire inflation system, as well as Doran Manufacturing’s tire monitoring system, just to name a few. Combine these improvements with our driver training and safety efforts, and we come up with a win-win solution.”

Maverick was one of 43 truck carriers to receive this distinction, representing the best environmental performers of SmartWay’s 3500 Partners. The carrier Excellence Awardees were honored at the American Trucking Associations Annual Management Conference & Exhibition held in Las Vegas, Nevada on October 3, 2016.

“As the SmartWay program completes its 12th year, EPA recognizes its top Carrier Partners for their commitment to an efficient and environmentally responsible freight transportation supply chain,” said Christopher Grundler, EPA’s Office Director of Transportation & Air Quality Christopher Grundler. “We all depend on the freight sector, and these award-winning SmartWay carriers have demonstrated that it is possible to compete in this space while placing an emphasis on environmental integrity, allowing for reduced fuel costs which increase revenue while also lowering greenhouse gas emissions.”
